Alright…How much does it cost to build a bathroom in the basement?

Well…It really depends on two major project factors:

  1. Are you doing the work yourself, or are you hiring a subcontractor to do a portion or all of the work for you?
  2. What are the prices of the bathroom fixtures, accessories and flooring that you pick-out and purchase for the bathroom project?

So now knowing these two controllable variables, you can see that you have a lot of control over what this bathroom project is going to cost you to build.

If you are going use a subcontractor to come-in and let’s say…just do the rough-in plumbing expect to spend:

BATHROOM ROUGH-IN PLUMBING LABOR PRICE

Cost To Build a Bathroom in Basement – materials and labor costsOK…the rough-in plumbing consists of installing all of the drain lines for the toilet, sink, and shower/tub
unit. For a registered licensed plumber that knows his stuff, this is an 8 hour 1 day project and will cost you between $320.00 to $600.00. This is based on a $40.00 to $75.00 per hour labor charge for 8 hours. Rough-in plumbing also consists of installing the bathroom water supply lines from the source(your existing water supply system) to the new bath fixture locations.

This would be supply lines to the toilet, sink and shower/tub. If your plumber is using the PEX water supply system this is a 6 hour project on average. Expect to shell-out another $240.00 to $450.00 in labor.

You may need to have a “Sewage Ejector System” installed to pump you bathroom waste water up and out of your basement. About 85% of all basements do need this system to run a bathroom, Bar, or laundry area. Expect another 4 to 8 hours for this system so that’s another $160.00 to $300.00 in labor.

So all together you have:

  • $320.00 to $600.00 Rough-in Drain Lines
  • $240.00 to $450.00 Rough-in Water supply lines
  • $160.00 to $300.00 Install sewage ejector and make connections.
  • $720.00 to $1,350.00 GRAND TOTAL OF BATHROOM LABOR

That’s just plumbing Labor…no materials at all. Just hard earned cash going to feed your plumbers family

Bathroom Floor Material Costs (Tile, Vinyl, Synthetics)

Cost To Build a Bathroom in Basement – materials and labor costsYou have several options for Bathroom flooring and the costs associated with each. The most popular bathroom floor for basement baths is ceramic tile. Then it would be vinyl and then synthetics(ex. Pergo “wood-look” flooring).

If your doing your own bathroom flooring we can eliminate the labor costs for the bath floor project.

If your not, expect to pay $200.00 to $425.00 for bathroom flooring labor charges. Even though bathroom floors are on the small-size as far as flooring projects go…most contractors will have a “core-installation-charge” for these floors, and this is what is costs!

An average bathroom floor is only 40 sq. feet in size. There is not a lot of flooring material needed for this project. So…your flooring materials bill is rather small. Here’s the average cost for a 40 sq. ft. bathroom floor:

  • $150.00 to $225.00: Ceramic Tile (Tile, adhesive, grout)
  • $200.00 to $240.00: Vinyl Flooring (Good heavy duty rated vinyl)
  • $100.00 to $120.00: Synthetics [Ex. Pergo, etc.] ($2.50 to $3.00 per sq. ft.)

  • $750.00 to $1,500.00 Add a jet tub (replaces of regular tub w/shower or a single shower unit)

Now keep in mind that prices above can fluctuate as much as 10% depending on where you live. These prices are averages. But…these prices should get you real close to your actual bathroom costs. So now you can budget and decide how far you want to go with your bathroom design.
